  14. Solar flux was down an average of 10 points this past week, but
  15. conditions were stable.  Most days the A index was in the single
  16. digits, and many periods had a K index of one or zero.  This means
  17. much less absorption of radio waves and better propagation than the
  18. previous week.
  19.  
  20. Gradually there is a change toward Spring conditions in the Northern
  21. Hemisphere.  Usable frequencies during the day will be a bit lower,
  22. but at night they will be higher.  Look for better propagation to
  23. the Southern Hemisphere as we move toward the equinox, and the
  24. Southern Hemisphere changes from Summer to Fall.
  25.  
  26. During the DX contest this weekend the solar flux should be reaching
  27. a short term peak, but there is a possibility of more disturbed
  28. conditions due to a recurring coronal hole on the Sun.  These
  29. disturbed conditions could produce K indices of four and five during
  30. the contest and through the next week.  Conditions should stabilize
  31. by the middle of March when the solar flux will also reach a near
  32. term low near 95.  Look for the flux to peak again near 105 around
  33. March 23.

  35. Sunspot Numbers from February 24 through March 2 were 58, 53, 63,
  36. 69, 64, 61 and 77, with a mean of 63.6.  10.7 cm flux was 105, 96.7,
  37. 94, 95, 92.5, 94.1 and 98, with a mean of 96.5.
  38.  
  39. The path prediction for this weekend is from San Francisco,
  40. California to Taiwan.
  41.  
  42. 75 meters should start to open around 0930z and be good from 1030 to
  43. 1500.  Peak hours are from 1130 to 1400.  40 meters should open from
  44. 0930 to 1600, and 30 meters from 0830 to 1700.
  45.  
  46. 20 meters is likely to be open from 1530 to 1830 and in the evening
  47. on the West Coast until about 0530, with a slight possibility of
  48. some openings through the night.
  49.  
  50. Check 17 meters from 2230 to 0400, and 15 meters from 2300 to 0200.
  51. 12 meters may be open from 2330 to 0030, and on some days it may
  52. open 30 minutes earlier and close 90 minutes later.

  54. 10 meters does not look very good for this path, but there may be an
  55. opening between 2330 and 0100.
